PDF/X-1a 2001 is the most used format in print shops since it allows the file to be lighter without compromising its resolution and quality. Besides, in Atual Card, by sending your file in PDF/X-1a (2001) they will be sent directly to production.

See below how to export files in PDF/X-1a on CorelDraw, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

Corel Draw

To export files to PDF/X-1a (2001) on CorelDraw, after completing the art creation access the “File” option in the menu, then select the option “publish in PDF”. On the next window, go to “PDF Preset” and select the option “PDF/X-1a (2001)”.

Then click in “Configurations” and check if the PDF preset and the compatibility is selected as PDF/X-1a (2001). There will be a tab in the same window named “Colour”. Check if in the color output CMYK mode is selected. In the option “Other Colour Controls” on the same tab, neither of the two options should be selected.

On the same window, select the tab “Objects”, and in “compaction Types” select the option JPEG. Also, select the options “Compact Text and Artistic Line” and “Export All Text as Curves”. After verifying all items, click “OK”. Then click on “Save” to finish.

Illustrator

In order to export your file as PDF/X-1a (2001) on Illustrator, go to the top menu and click on “File”, then select the option “Save as”. On the next window on “Type”, select the option “Adobe PDF (*.PDF)” and click on “Save”.

On the next window, on the tab “Adobe PDF Preset”, select the option “PDF/X-1a:2001”. Then, on the same window, click the option “Compression” and verify the following fields:

  • In “Colour, Bitmap, Images”, the option “Bicubic Downsampling to” should be in 300ppi, and “Images Above” should be in 450ppi.
  • On the field “Grayscale Bitmap Images”, the option “Bicubic Downsampling to” should be in 300ppi, and “Images Above” should be in 450ppi.
  • But in the option “Monochrome Bitmap Images”, the “Bicubic Downsampling to” options should be in 1200ppi and “Images Above” should be in 1800ppi.

On the Same window, click the option “Output”, and in “Destination” select the option “U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2” and click in “Save PDF”, then to finish click “ok”.

Photoshop

In order to export your file as PDF/X-1a 2001 on Photoshop, access the option “File”, in the top menu, then select the option “Save as”. On the next window, on the field “Format” select the option “Photoshop PDF (*. PDF;*.PDP)” and click on “Save “.

On the next window, on the tab “Adobe PDF Preset”, select the option “PDF/X-1a: 2001”. Then click the option “Compression and verify the following fields:

  • “Bicubic Downsampling to” should be with 300 Pixels
  • “Images Above:” should be with 450 Pixels.
  • “Image Quality” should be in “Maximum “.

To finish, click on “Save”.

InDesign

In order to export your file as PDF/X-1a 2001 on InDesign, click on “file” on the top menu, and select the option “Adobe PDF Presets”.  Select PDF/X-1a:2001. On the next window, click on “Save”. Then select the option “Compression” and verify the following fields:

  • In Colour Images the option “Bicubic Downsampling to” should be with 300 Pixels, and “Images Above” should be with 450 pixels.
  • In the field “Grayscale Bitmap Images”, the option “Bicubic Downsampling to” should be with 300 Pixels and “Images Above” should be with 450 pixels.
  • In the option “Monochrome Bitmap Images”, the “Bicubic Downsampling to” should be with 1200 pixels, and “Images Above” should be with 1800 pixels.
